For life to thrive on Earth. That has been Alvaro’s purpose since adolescence. Costa Rican by birth, he hosted with his wife a tree-planting ceremony as their wedding celebration, is an active promoter of bioliteracy to speak the language of life, and negotiated a bilateral green economy deal with Japan worth USD 800 million.
He served as a government official and diplomat for his country, opening the Costa Rican Embassy in Beijing and serving as ambassador to Tokyo and the World Trade Organization in Geneva, where he led his country’s trade negotiations of the Information Technologies Agreement expansion (ITA2), worth USD $1.2 trillion.
He possesses more than 25 years of experience as a facilitator in intercultural competence building, helping teams improve their ability to interact across cultures by developing contextual intelligence. He holds a degree in Law and two master’s degrees in Peace & Conflict Transformation, and Public Policy & Management.
He works as a consultant in corporate diplomacy, creating value through strategic foresight and narrative design, crisis management, and legal services.
His biggest hobby for the last 30 years has been meditation, which he practices for 45 minutes a day, mostly chanting Tibetan mantras.
He met his Brazilian wife in India and has two daughters, one born in Japan, another one born in Switzerland, and adopted Chiva, a female dog born in the Costa Rican Caribbean.
